The Avatar movie reached an all-time box office high, topping Titanic (1997). A leader in 3D films and nominated for numerous 2010 Academy Awards, Avatar is a 3D success.

A movie filmed entirely with stereoscopic cameras, Avatar gives new meaning to 3-Dimensional films, with a fresh movie watching experience, and sets a standard for 3D movies to follow. Directed by James Cameron (Titanic), Avatar stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang.

Avatar a Drama, Action, Adventure Movie

When his twin brother dies, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) takes his place in an expedition on a planet called Pandora, where has been discovered valuable rock. On this planet live the Na'vi, a human-like race that live among the trees and believe in a connection between nature and themselves. In an attempt to communicate with the Na'vi, the expedition scientists have created avatars that are built just like the Na'vi and are controlled by the mind.

A paraplegic, Jake finds a new freedom in the ability to use his legs as he controls his avatar. Upon meeting Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), one of the Na'vi, Jake finds himself lost in the forest and communicating with the inhabitants of Pandora in a way that the expedition had yet to accomplish. This communication opens doors for both the expedition and for Jake, and he finds himself torn between his duty and his personal judgement.

Avatar Story and Cinematography

Avatar received nine well sought out 2010 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Cinematography, Art Direction and Sound awards. Although 3-Dimensional films have been in the works for some time, Avatar is meant to be seen in 3D and is best enjoyed in 3D. The effect gives audiences the feeling that they are in on the action of the movie, more so than 3D films before it.

The 3-Dimensional effects are applied to both the animation of the Na'vi and the avatars, as well as non-animated humans, that makes for an interesting and artistic viewing experience. The 3D effects are accompanied by thrilling music that draws the audience into the drama of the story and not only the trappings of stereoscopic film.

Avatar is not merely a novelty of a film created with stereoscopic cameras, half animated and half live, but presents a story about trust and faith that makes a statement on human greed. The Avatar story presents a moral by showing the consequences of coveting in an admirable fashion.

A rival to Titanic in box office sales, Avatar is a well accepted and successful film, a success which is supported by several Academy Award nominations, to be presented at the 2010 Oscars ceremony.
