Adam Mitchell (Alex Kendrick) is a county police officer who, along with his partners Nathan (Ken Bevel), David (Ben Davies) and Shane (Kevin Downes), faces many challenges on the job, particularly involving gangs and drug dealers. Adam also faces challenges at home with his family, as he tries to be a good father to his two children. Nathan does his utmost to protect his family, while David and Shane are both from broken homes. Meanwhile, Javier Martinez (Robert Amaya), a young family man struggles to keep enough work to support his young family.

When tragedy strikes in Adam’s home, he searches his Bible for scripture on parenting and fatherhood and writes a scripture-based “Resolution.” Trusting in God to keep them diligent, each man commits to this “Resolution” to be good, Biblical fathers. Along the way, they learn a lesson on faith, family and the courage it takes to be a good father.

A Story of Faith, a Message About Courage

Created by the makers of Facing the Giants and Fireproof, Courageous is a film that holds audiences in the suspense of several storylines. As it is mainly a story about fatherhood, several different fathers are represented: the father who struggles to support his family; the father who is doing just enough to be a dad; the father who is selflessly devoted to his children; the father of a broken home; the absent father.

As each father learns to face challenges and works to keep on with the “Resolution” to which they have all committed, audiences are drawn in by the struggles and victories to being good parents. While many audiences may identify with the characters in Courageous, others can appreciate the message within the movie. As the title suggests, Courageous is a story that is ultimately about courage.

The message of Courageous is not only a message on having courage in dangerous situations, but courage in daily living up to the standards of being Godly parents, which is admirable. Infused with a mixture of drama and humour, Courageous is an uplifting and family-friendly film.

From the creators of Fireproof, a beautiful, thought-provoking film on marriage, Courageous goes one step further and presents a message on faith and fatherhood, encouraging audiences to be courageous.
